ALWAYS BE WIRED*
* 1st - importantly there are critical, much appreciated exceptions to this…certain individuals know that I didn’t record them…they know that I trust them…I thank them greatly…they give me…and others…hope…
* ‘Always’ doesn’t mean always…it just means always with anyone you think you might not trust…and according to…and within any recording laws or limitations where you live…where you are when you record…where the other party is when you record…who has to be notified when you record…etc…it varies from state to state…and interstate calls can be a gotcha if you don’t know their laws and are subject to them regardless of the state you call from…etc…know your rights and laws…
That said…I felt early on that I was being snowed…so I taped a ton…I trusted little…and sadly…I was right to not trust that law enforcement and other government officials, staff, would be honest…consistent…etc…
I both hate that I felt the need to record…did record…and am glad that I did…and will continue to…at this point I believe a number of those I speak with would love to put words in my mouth or interpret them as…threatening…illegal…etc…that I didn’t say or mean.
Audio Recorder…I don’t leave home without it!
I’ve been told by some that I have recorded…that now…no one is going to talk to you…i.e. government officials who are supposed to play it straight won’t talk to me because they are being recorded and can’t get by without playing it straight…come again!
“can’t get by” only means they may be forced to face their own lies, misrepresentations, deceptions, etc., by themselves and/or others listening to their actual words…there may not be legal consequences…there may only be their own self knowledge that they got caught in their own words…and can’t “get by” with denying them…e.g. “…you’re twisting my words…” when the record shows they weren’t twisted at all…they were her own (Asst US Atty M_J_ paraphrased).
